Joey Barton has been suspended from football for 18 months after admitting a misconduct charge relating to betting.

The Englishman is alleged to have placed over 1,260 bets on football matches between 2006 and 2003. The player started his career at Manchester City and has ended up at Burnley, via Newcastle United, QPR, Marseille and Rangers.

The 34-year-old rejoined Burnley after playing for the club in the 2015-16 season, and has played 13 league games this season and has managed to score once.

Barton has had a career of controversy, with this being only the latest of his actions. This is likely to be the end of his career in football due to his age and it not being likely that any club will want the player after this.

However, the midfielder is planning to appeal the sentence, to get it reduced.
